On March 1st 2012 the new version of the ISO/IEC 17020 "Conformity assessment Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspections" has been published. This ISO/IEC 17020: 2012 is the successor of the ISO/IEC 17020: 1998. The new standard is now available from the national standardisation bodies (in the Netherlands this is NEN).
In July 2012 the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) has decided that the transitional period will be 3 years from the date of publication of the new standard. This means that the transitional period will end on February 28th 2015.
The RvA will apply the new ISO/IEC 17020: 2012 from March 1st 2013 in all its accreditation assessments of inspection organisations.
The RvA will publish its policy for the approach of the transition from the ISO/IEC 17020: 1998 to the newly published standard in an explanatory document. That publication will be accompanied by a news item on our website and a mailing to: the relevant accredited organisations and the organisations that have applied for accreditation, the relevant schema owners and the schema owners that have applied for acceptance, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the scheme administrators within the SZW assessment system and organisations that have applied for an assessment concerning inspection in the framework of the SZW assessment system.
