On February 1st, 2011 the new international standard ISO/IEC 17021:2011 is published. In the Netherlands NEN published this standard as NEN-EN-ISO/IEC 17021:2011.
The first version of this standard was published in 2006. In this new version, the principles of the first version are maintained. Furthermore, the criteria in which previously was referred to ISO 19011 are now included in the new version of this standard. Also, the principles mentioned in the 2006 version for the competence of auditors are expanded and explained. Also, new requirements were introduced relating to managing and conducting audits.
ISO and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) have decided to apply an international transitional period of two years, so at the latest until February 1st, 2013.
From 1st July 2011 all regular assessments will be based on ISO/IEC 17021: 2011.
Nonconformities issued against clauses of ISO/IEC 17021: 2011 that are no nonconformities against the 2006 version of ISO/IEC 17021 shall be graded as (B).
The CAB has until 1st September 2012 to implement corrective actions and provide RvA with the corrective action report to be able to assure transition to the new 2011 version of the standard before 1st February 2013.
All declarations of accreditation against the 2006 version of ISO/IEC 17021 will become void on 1st Ferbruary 2013.
The Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) published a new version of Explanatory document RvA-T032 for the implemantation of ISO/IEC 17021:2011.
